"No Greater Love"

Hated, Loved, and Merciful!

If you truly walk with Christ, you will "be hated of all men for my name's sake." (Matthew 10:22) You Will be slandered and falsely accused but that only proves that you are of the LORD and He will bless you with comfort and to "endure." - "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." (2 Timothy 2:3)

“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say ALL MANNER of evil against you FALSELY, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” Matthew 5:10-12

Perhaps somewhere along the line, each of us will endure a traitor, a person who knows us and that we were friends with and then they turn on you. Can anyone relate? David can relate – his own son Absalom turned on him and created a whole insurrection against him. What about our Savior who was betrayed by his “own familiar friend.” (Psalms 41:9-10) This is what David faced and also prophetic of what Jesus would endure.

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15

Jesus surely can “be touched with the feelings of our infirmities” in suffering these betrayals (Hebrews 4:15). Our LORD Jesus experienced great betrayal even though He was the sinless Lamb of God who came to die for those very people He was being persecuted by. His response was “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34) Christ had had created all that is and came to this world for His own people who knew Him not and rejected Him (John 1:10). Jesus was shunned. Jesus was betrayed. Jesus went through more rejection, slander, malice, false accusations, and pain than you and I could ever imagine or endure. He is said to be “a man of sorrows.”

“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53:3)

Christ Betrayed

“Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish? 6 And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it. 7 All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. 8 An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more. 9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. 10 But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. 11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. 12 And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever. 13 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.” Psalms 41:5-13

There are also the Peter, James, and John’s in our lives who are a blessing beyond words! Peter, James, and John were the bright spots of Christ’s temporary earthly life as far as relationships with men go. Praise God for those blessed good friends we are given in this life! May God bless us today to thank Him for those people and to let them know how much we appreciate and love them. Amen Jesus!

May “the God of all comfort” comfort your heart (2 Corinthians 1:2-5). He knows the very “feelings” of what you suffer due to walking through and experiencing this same betrayal and every single thing we could ever experience (Hebrews 4:15). The LORD bless each of us to be comforted where the enemy has sought to malign and slander us and accuse us of falsehoods and sins the LORD has already forgiven. His grace truly is sufficient! May He also bless us with true, God-fearing friends like Peter, James, and John were to Jesus! Amen LORD! Oh, and may He anoint us to BE that good friend to another today!

When we truly follow Jesus, we lay down our lives to bless and edify those others God so gracious gifts us with (John 15:13; Philippians 2:3-9). When we humble ourselves in these trials and commit ourselves to Him who judges righteously, He will lift us up in our hearts. Perhaps God uses our trials as a test. Let’s glance at what our LORD did when suffering a myriad of inhumane and unjust attacks and persecutions:

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously.” 1 Peter 2:21-23

While being attacked, Jesus “committed himself to him that judgeth righteously.” Christ committed Himself to the Father during the tribulations He suffered and this is what He is calling us to do.

Showing mercy towards others in our thoughts and actions is very important. Isn’t this what the Good Samaritan did? Isn’t this what Christ did when He came to this sin-cursed earth to save you and I “while we were YET sinners”? (Romans 5:6, 8) Remember beloved, we ourselves need divine mercy and therefore should be even more forward to extend mercy as God does to us. If we want mercy from God, we must show it to others. If we don’t then we will receive judgment instead of mercy. Jesus said “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.” (Matthew 5:7) Paul the apostle wrote “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:30-32)

The Curse is Coming on All Who Wrongly Attack Another

A curse will not depart from us or our household if we turn and rend someone maliciously. – “Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.” (Proverbs 17:13) If we have done such, God is calling us to repent and ask His forgiveness. Then, the curse will be removed. Also, consider what our Judge says in James 2:13 – “For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.” (James 2:13)

God is love precious saints!

Read Psalm 41.

There are "many false" prophets Jesus foretold us of and their desire and mission is to devour the sheep, causing them to be torn from the true under shepherds the LORD has put in place to feed them (Matthew 7:15).

"And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding." Jeremiah 3:15

Those servants who are true to Christ manifest the fruit of the Spirit which begins with love - loving God and loving our neighbor as we wish to be loved (Matthew 7:12; 22:37-40). There are in it for Jesus and not themselves.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." John 15:13-14

The clear evidence that they are following and being used by Christ is that they lay down their lives for the saints of Jesus. That is what following Jesus is all about. Watch this:

"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Phil 2:3-11 (KJV)

There are scam artists who beat up the sheep of Christ's pasture, abusing out of their own depraved hearts and for their own benefit.

"Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." Philippians 3:17-20

Robert Avila writes:

"This is a spirit of division moving through the Body... Those who choose the Word are on one side. Those who choose doctrines of man are on the other. Jesus came with a Sword (the Word) to separate. It is decision time."

In this division we see the wheat and the tares/chaff beginning to manifest before our eyes. Those who walk in love are the wheat of Christ.

"And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." Matthew 24:10-13

Growing in Grace

ALL THINGS WORKING TOGETHER FOR YOUR GOOD
Are "all things" good?  Or, do "all things work together for good" in the life of the person who is truly seeking after the Lord?
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren." Romans 8:28-29
Notice that this Romans 8 text doesn't say that all things are good, but that "all things work together for good."
It is more than obvious that all the things that come our way are not coming from the Lord, yet He allows those things and even helps us "escape." (1 Corinthians 10:13; Job 1-2). It is clear that the Almighty cannot be tempted with evil (James 1:13) and that "The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it." (Proverbs 10:22) Furthermore, we know that "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." (James 1:17)
In "all things" that come our way the Lord is working to form the Person of Jesus Christ in us as we have been predestined to be conformed to (Rom. 8:29).
At this time you may be entangled with trials and tribulations from seemingly every angle - coming at you relentlessly.  Are you experiencing financial, marital, work-related difficulties?
“Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.”  Isaiah 50:10
Remember that your current season will change.  This trial shall come to pass (1 Peter 1:6).
Persevering and overcoming in trials, temptations and struggles provides the stepping stones to maturity.
Determination and perseverance are the indispensable character traits possessed by life's greatest achievers.
In all this that you may be suffering, please prayerfully remember that ALL these things are working together for the glory of God in your life.  He is using them to cause your heart to be conformed to the image of Christ as you seek His face, totally relying upon Him in these tests. He is making you complete, mature so that you lack nothing spiritually.
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;   Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting (lacking) nothing.”  James 1:2-4
One of the temptations of the trial is to turn on God and blame Him, or to imagine that He doesn’t know your state of struggle or care.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”  1 Peter 5:6-7
Have you ever blamed God?  Are you blaming Him for anything in this season of your life?  Remember, the LORD is for you.  He loves you more than you could know.
"In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly."  Job 1:22

There are "many false" prophets Jesus foretold us of and their desire and mission is to devour the sheep, causing them to be torn from the true under shepherds the LORD has put in place to feed them (Matthew 7:15).

Philippians 2:3-11

There are scam artists who beat up the sheep of Christ's pasture, abusing out of their own depraved hearts and for their own benefit.

"Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." TRIALS THAT CONFORM US
"And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause."  Job 2:3
Job truly chose to possess integrity before God.
"But he (Job) said unto her (his wife), Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?  In all this did not Job sin with his lips."  Job 2:10
You ARE going to pass your test if you will follow Job’s example.  You are going to come out a different person, more like JESUS, the One you have been predestined to be conformed to.  Like Job, you will be  safe and alright, even if you endure untold misery over a several month period.  God is keeping you.
“For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.  Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.”  2 Timothy 1:1-13
This season is only for a “season”.  You are going to be "kept" by the power of God, so "rejoice" in this "season" of "trial" and "trying" as you pass your tests and continue to pursue the One "whom having not seen, ye love":
"Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls." 1 Peter 1:5-9
Remember that all "seasons" come - to pass.  Every year in God’s calender, 4 seasons PASS.  Also, remember that Job was more blessed in the end than before the devastating trials came his way.  Are you ready to get blessed?  Follow Job’s faith and you will be.
Job 42:10  "And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before."
Could it be that in testing, the LORD is getting ready to bless His child and is simply clearing the way in his heart for that blessing? (Deuteronomy 8:1-18)
Read Job 1-2.

THE VICTORY OF PRAYER FIRST
The River of Thy Pleasures
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”  Mark 1:35
Our LORD practiced early morning prayer.  Am I following Him in this?  Do I desire to be like Him?
As a born-again believer, positionally I am “in Him”, but am I “in Him” spiritually? Do I follow Him - do what He did and demonstrated for me to do? Not if I don’t properly seek Him.
“Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.”  1 Chronicles 16:11
We are spiritual paupers in need of the Savior. We have no sufficiency of ourselves apart from Him. I have no chance to be “in Christ”, that is, truly hidden away in Him, if I do not put Him first in my day by speaking to Him and inviting Him to rule my thoughts and actions. If I do not assertively go after Him in the very waking moments of my day, what have I of myself that will glorify Him? Though subtle, is this not the epitomy of self-reliance and defiance?  Oswald Chambers, author of My Utmost for His Highest, said:
"Unless in the first waking moment of the day you learn to fling the door wide back and let God in, you will work on a wrong level all day; but swing the door wide open and pray to your Father in secret, and every public thing will be stamped with the presence of God." Oswald Chambers
Listen close to what the only man known in history who garnered the divinely-given title “the man after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22), said:
“A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.”  Psalms 63:1
Do I desire to commune with my Savior, my Friend and my Master – to drink from the river of His presence?  Do I earnestly desire above all else to “come boldly unto the throne of His grace”?  (Heb. 4:16)  Am I willing to claim these blessings in His presence by seeking Him first?
“They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.”  Psalms 36:8
There is a river flowing.
"There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High." Psalms 46:4
I need only to come and dip the cup of my desire for more of Him.
“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.”  Revelation 22:1
Now let us right here apply the truth that Christ spoke concerning “all things” being “added” to our lives by God:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”  Matthew 6:33
Does this “first” principle apply to prayer?  Of course.  Try it and the benefits will overwhelm your life.   As the children of Israel were instructed by the LORD to go out each morning and collect the bread (manna) from the ground to be nourished with, and they did, so the LORD will fill our lives with His living manna as we awake to love Him in the morning.  This is His desire – to fill our lives with His abundant blessings.  He loves His people with an "everlasting love" and delighting in Him procures to us the richest of His blessings (Jer. 31:3).
“Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah (means to think about this – to meditate upon it).”  Psalms 68:19
Are there blessings He longs to bestow upon us that we have not yet claimed?  Is it true that for most there will be unwrapped gifts in Heaven that we did not claim while living this earthly life?
Can we truly glorify Him and have the grace (divine favor and enablement) to fuel the gifts and talents He has placed in us, if we do not fellowship with Him as we should?  Can we possess the divine and blessed wisdom to fruitfully operate in this world, if we do not draw it from His Well each day?  Will we have the power to overcome sinfulness, the lure of the world, and the evil one, if we do not tarry in communion with Him?
“And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”  Matthew 26:40-41

GOD’S PERFECTION BY TRIAL
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”  Romans 8:28-29
In this text (Romans 8:28-29), is our Heavenly Father not telling us that all those things that are coming our way are ultimately being used to conform our lives to the image of JESUS?
Has anyone out there been attacked lately by people within the Body of Christ?  This does happen and will increase as the end nears us (Matthew 24:10-13).  Okay, I know we don't all line up exactly doctrinally, but that's not what I'm talking about.  I'm talking about a clear and blatant attack on your person or character – a fiery dart from the enemy to spoil and misdirect you focus away from pure devotion to Jesus your first love. Can anybody relate?
God is allowing such.  Take heart in the LORD beloved:
"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while (not forever), make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you."  1 Peter 5:10
This is a key verse for every believer because “all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” and be “chastened” and “tried in the fire.” (2 Tim. 3:12; Heb, 12:10; Rev. 3:18-19) Saint, in your suffering, according to 1 Peter 5:10, the LORD is:
1. perfecting you
2. establishing you
3. strengthening you
4. settling you
God's love is going to heal the wounds caused by the trials (Psalms 147:3; Luke 4:18).
Here are your divine marching orders when in trials:
"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.  And of some have compassion, making a difference:  And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.  Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,   To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen."  Jude 20-25
Perhaps nothing flies in Satan's face as powerfully as the witness of God's saints when they are in a trial.   In light of this, how powerful it is to give the devil a black eye by serving others in the midst of your trial.  I believe the enemy profusely frowns when we encourage Christians, hand out tracts and do other things to reach the lost, feed the poor, clothe the naked, and build up the Body of Christ - right in the midst of our own trial.  So, next time you’re hurting, start serving and watch what the LORD does in return!
